Transportation of Personal Effects to and from the UK
There is a regular shipping service from the UK to Gazi Ma g usa ( Famagusta ). You will need to employ a UK shipping agent for details and costs. Airfreight can also be arranged and is not as expensive as one might think. Remember to insure goods in transit and for the ongoing journey in to the TRNC.
Customs Duty is liable on all imported goods, although persons retiring to the TRNC may have that duty waived on Used household effects; duty may be levied on electrical goods. The Customs authorities may request verification of retirement. When goods are being shipped, it is advisable to employ a local agent to assist with documentation and customs. All manifests and packing lists must be translated into Turkish.
Firearms and Shotguns should not be imported without prior authorisation from the office of the Chief of Police of TRNC. Permanent residency and TRNC shotgun certificate is required. They are not classed as household goods and customs duty will be charged. It can take many months to obtain permission to recover guns from Customs and their storage facilities are inadequate.
