Life in North Cyprus
Sport is enormously popular in Northern Cyprus and Turkish Cypriots are very ardent and loyal supporters. An extensive and diverse range wide assortment of sports are available in North Cyprus. Gambling is legitimate and many place bets on the outcome of many football matches, top Turkish league teams like Besiktas, Galatasary and Fenerbache are favourites as are other European league teams.

Football is the number one sporting passion in the TRNC and most villages have their own keenly supported football teams. Schools encourage pupils to participate in football and some schools have their own locally sponsored teams. Thanks to Satellite TV, English premiership games, international and European matches and tournaments can be viewed from a variety of bars and hotels.
Go-Karting is increasing in popularity and there is a circuit just outside of Lefkosa, facilities include a bar and restaurant offering snacks.
An established 9-hole golf course near Güzelyurt, 48km west of Girne. Warmly welcomes new members.
A long awaited new 18-hole championship golf course is currently under construction in Alagadi near Esentepe, east of Girne, the course scheduled for completion in 2006 looks set to attract a lot of attention.
North Cyprus has a number of Gymnasiums and fitness centres, many attached to hotels but non-residents are welcome to use their facilities.
Hunting is another very popular pastime among Turkish Cypriot men.
The season is from October to February and is limited to Sundays only. Hunting areas are strictly controlled by the government and hunters require a license. Prey includes Partridges, wood pigeons and Hares.
Water sports are extremely popular in North Cyprus and because of the warm climate, activities can be enjoyed well into November, as the sea temperature remains around 25 degrees centigrade.
In addition to Scuba diving, Jet Skis available for hire as are fun "doughnut" and "banana" inflatable rides!
Swimming and Snorkeling remain firm favourites, what better way to cool down than with a dip in a swimming pool or into the clear blue waters of the sea. The shores around the island are shallow and safe.
North Cyprus has a water park with large outdoor swimming pool and slides, the park has a licensed bar and restaurant and poolside snack bar.
Horse riding is another activity that pleasure can be taken from, There are several stables offering riding lessons in both the Girne and Famagusta areas. For established riders some stables will hire out horses. Horse riding is a great way to explore the beautiful countryside found in North Cyprus.
A few of the larger hotels have Tennis courts and there are a couple of private Tennis clubs in the Girne area. Due to the dry and arm climate playing surfaces may not be quite up to 'Wimbledon' standard!!
