Still locked over aid issue
The dilema over the two European Union regulations proving a stumbling block to financial aid for North Cyprus looks set to continue after the two sides of the Island remained deadlocked on the issue this week.
The Turkish Cypriot side is insisting on linking the two EU regulations, direct trade and financial aid, but the Greek Cypriot side maintains they should be kept separate.
TRNC Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer said the Turkish Cypriot side's stand on the issue remains unchanged.
The Greek Cypriot side offered to approve the financial aid regulation if the North returned the closed area of Varosha to the South, but Mr Soyer described it as an 'indecent proposal'.
Mr Soyer said the greek Cypriot side was 'strengthening the separatism in the island' by preventing the approval of the financial aid regulation.
