MYSTERY OVER LOVE- TUG GIRLS WHEREABOUTS
Stephanie Cook, the 8 year old girl who is a subject of a tug-of-love battle between parents living in North Cyprus and UK has gone missing. The mother believes she has already been taken from Cyprus by her father before the custody trial has gone ahead.
BIRD FLU
A 10km quarentine zone had been put in place around the village of Incirli near Gazi Magusa after detection of the H5N1 bird flu had been detected. WHO regional driector Guenael Rodier delivered a press conference at Ledra Palace having flown in following the positive test. Public vigilance, hygiene, communication and cooperation between all parties are the vital measures in guarding against the spread of bird flu. Poultry in the quarentine areas have been culled and leaflets have been distributed informing villagers about bird flu. Chicken consumption is down be 80% since the detection of the virus but experts have said that if cooked properly and thouroughly there is no cause for concern over eating either chicken or eggs. It is quoted that there is no fear of trhe farm-reared poultry of contracting the virus as they have no contact with the outside world or wild birds which are said to be spreading the bird flu virus.
SOUTH TO SU PPL Y ELEC TRICITY FOR ANOTHER 16 DAYS
Supply of electricity by South Cyprus is to continue for another 16 days while repairs are carried out at the ailing Teknecik power station. TRNC electricity authority Kib-tek has extended it's agreement for the South to continue supplying power until February 20th when the remaining broken unit at Teknecik should be repaired.
