Preparations Have Been Completed for Tomorrow’s Census
As most of the preparations are completed for tomorrow’s national census, the public service staff who will be visiting our homes to conduct the census are completing their own training for the day.
A daytime curfew will be in force on Sunday starting from 5 am and lasting until 6 pm.
A statement issued by the head of the State Planning Organisation Isilay Yilmaz, reminded the citizens that everyone will be obliged to respond – and - provide answers to, the questions to be put to them during the census.
She also said that the Ercan Airport and seaports in the Republic will be functioning normally and the checkpoints between the TRNC and South Cyprus, kept open.
Those violating the curfew will be liable for penal action and may even be prosecuted, the statement reminded.
Everyone with the exception of those with special permits will have to stay at home during the curfew.
Doğan Şahali, the Undersecretary for the Prime Ministry, told a joint press conference in Lefkosa with Mrs Isılay Yılmaz, that the national census will be open to foreign observation.

In a written statement yesterday, Mr Erel said that a lawsuit was filed at the Greek Cypriot High Court on the issue after the Greek Cypriot Minister of Interior Andreas Hristou rejected the Society’s written request for Turkish Cypriots to be entitled to vote and contest elections in South Cyprus, scheduled for May 21st this year.

Turkish Airspace Remains Closed To Greek Cypriot Aircraft
Turkey’s Ministry of Communications and Transport has declared that Greek Cypriot-registered aircraft are not authorized to use the Turkish air space directly but that planes from third countries are allowed to use the airspace for transit flights to South Cyprus.
Commenting on newspaper reports that the Turkish air space has been opened to Greek Cypriot aircraft, the Ministry warned that this could lead to a misunderstanding.
The statement reiterated that the Turkish air space has been closed to the use of Greek Cypriot aircraft since 1974, and that flights involving aircraft from third countries are being evaluated within the framework of an earlier declaration issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, dated 23rd of March 2001.
